Grapes come in several varieties, spanning a range of sizes and colors. Most come from central and northern California where the dry, hot climate provides ideal growing conditions.A few facts about the different types of grapes you'll find At Season's Peak:
Red Seedless: Red and round, the Red Flame is the early-season variety of Red Seedless grape. The late-season Crimson, which is grown in the San Joaquin Valley of California, is one of the most popular Red Seedless varieties.
White Seedless (Thompson): One of the oldest and most widely eaten varieties, this grape is best known for its sweet and juicy taste.
Black Seedless: Large, firm and sweet, the Summer Royal is the early-season variety of Black Seedless grape. It is also one of the newest Black Seedless varieties. The crisp, sweet-tasting Autumn Royal is the late-season variety.
Globe: It's one of the largest grape species, named for its round shape. It's also a seeded grape.
Concord: Named for the Massachusetts village where it was originally grown, this grape is well known for its starring role in grape juice, jam and jelly.
Thomchord: A cross between the Thompson and Concord grapes, this hybrid has a blue-black color.
Scuppernong/Muscadine: These particular grapes are actually grown primarily in the Southeast and have adapted to its warm, humid conditions.
Champagne: Also known as Zante Currant of Black Corinth, this grape is named for the Greek city where it was first grown over 2,000 years ago. It is small, seedless and blue-black in color.
