North Carolina is where blackberries and blueberries find just the right climate conditions to grow plump and juicy. The region's organic and acidic soil, combined with moderate winter temperatures and a water table that sits just below the ground's surface, makes a uniquely hospitable environment for these berries to flourish in the summertime.
And here's an interesting little tidbit about blueberries: In order for a blueberry blossom to be pollinated and produce a fruit, it must be visited at least 11 times by a bumble or honey bee.
